Beard Transplant

Beard transplant has the same principle as hair transplantation, which is to move hair roots from the strong back area to grow in the desired area. KESA Clinic has experience of beard transplantation for 7 year, which has its own details and delicacy that are different from hair transplantation, as follows:

• The design of mustache, beard, and sideburns is based on human anatomy principles, using the patient’s facial structure, age, and needs as criteria for design.

• The design of mustache, beard, and sideburns will be designed in an irregular line to make the results look like virtual. In the case of patients who want a straight line, not wavy, to make the beard line that grows out look sharp, similar to when the beard is shaved, it can be designed together with the doctor.

• The direction of graft placement and the degree of planting are different from hair transplantation. The graft must be planted as close to the skin as possible and the direction of the graft must follow the virtual direction of the mustache, beard, and sideburns.

• The density used will depend on the intensity the patient desires, but the density of the beard should also be in line with the density of the hair in other areas, such as the eyebrows and hair, otherwise it will look unnatural.

• All grafts used in a mustache, beard and sideburns transplantation must be trimmed to be a single hair (1 hair) to imitate the virtual hairline in the mustache, beard and sideburn areas, which are usually single hairs, resulting in a virtual-looking result.

Preparation for Beard Transplant

• Before Beard transplant operation

1. If you are taking regular medications, always inform your doctor so that they can consider stopping some of them before having a mustache, beard, or sideburn transplant.
2. Stop taking vitamin supplements such as fish oil, ginkgo, vitamin E, ginseng, and garlic 1 month before beard transplantation.
3. Avoid drinking alcohol and smoking 2 weeks before the mustache, beard and sideburns transplant.
4. 1 week before the transplant, refrain from shaving your beard and sideburns because the doctor wants to know the direction and shape of your original beard and sideburns.

• Day of operation

1. Eat breakfast as usual, except for caffeinated drinks
2. Wash and blow dry your hair before coming to the clinic
3. Wear a button-down shirt
4. Arrive at the clinic at least 15 minutes before the appointment time
5. See the doctor to draw the exact mustache, beard, and sideburn lines again
6. Get a haircut before receiving the service
7. Inject anesthesia. Mustache, beard, and sideburn transplantation takes about 4-6 hours
8. After mustache, beard, and sideburn transplantation, you should not drive back by yourself. You should call a TAXI or have a driver.

• After operation

1. Avoid brushing your teeth for 24 hours. Use a gentle mouth rinse instead.
2. You must take good care of your hygiene because the mouth area has a lot of germs. It is recommended to rinse your mouth and clean the area after eating for the first 7 days.
3. It is recommended to eat liquid foods that do not require chewing and drink water through a straw for the first 3 days.
4. Be careful not to let the graph fall out by avoiding frequent mouth movements, avoiding talking a lot, opening your mouth wide, and avoiding facial expressions, laughing or smiling a lot.
5. You should sleep on your back, do not sleep on your stomach/side. When sleeping, use a rolled-up towel to support your neck under the elastic bandage on your head to support the wound so it does not hit the pillow and sleep with your head slightly elevated. After 2 weeks, you can sleep normally.
6. If there is a lot of bleeding in the area where the beard and sideburns were transplanted, the grafts may have fallen out. Use a clean gauze to apply pressure to the bleeding area for 3-5 minutes. If it does not stop, apply the same pressure for another 5-10 minutes. If it does not stop, call your doctor or nurse.
7. After a mustache, beard, or sideburn transplant, there may be swelling around the cheeks and lips. Most swelling is not severe and will disappear within 5 days. If swelling occurs, apply a cold pack to the swollen area. Avoid touching the grafted hair cells.
8. If itching occurs, do not scratch or pick at the area. You can rub gently, apply a cold compress, wash your hair, or take anti-itch medication.
9. Do not drink any alcoholic beverages for 48 hours.
10. Avoid hot weather and sunlight for the first week after surgery.
11. Avoid strenuous exercise/swimming/sauna for 1 month.
12. During the first 2 weeks, be careful not to touch the planting area and be careful not to hit it with any hard objects.
13. You can start cutting your mustache, beard, and sideburns 14 days after surgery.
14. You can wear a mask from 1-2 weeks after planting.

How to clean the wound after beard transplant ?

• It is recommended to clean the planting area with salt water every time after eating for the first week.
• After 1 week, use facial foam to lather and gently pat the area where the mustache, beard, and sideburns are grown with your fingertips. Do not rub and leave for 1-2 minutes. Rinse with water carefully. Pat gently with a clean cloth. Do not rub.
• After 2 weeks, apply coconut oil and leave it on for 30 minutes and gently rub off the scales.
• After operation for 2 weeks, start rubbing gently on the planted area. In the 3rd week, start rubbing harder and wash your face normally after 1 month.

3-4 months	The hair that fell out will start to grow back but it will still be in fine, thin strands.	-The wound heals normally, but the color may be light pink. -The numbness and tingling pain disappeared.
6 months-1 year	My hair continues to grow longer and stronger.	The color of the wound returned to normal.
